Why Organize?

Win Respect at Work
Writers who work on non-Guild shows often face many workplace hardships without benefits like health care and pension benefits that their colleagues who work under WGA contracts receive. The most effective way to raise standards and win respect at work is to organize.

By standing together in an effective strategic campaign, writers will be able to negotiate contracts that will provide them with industry standard benefits. Thousands of US workers throughout the country are engaging in this process to gain recognition and win a union contract.

It is your legal right to organize a union to bargain collectively and democratically in your workplace.

The first step you can take is to contact the WGAW Organizing Department at 323-782-4511.

Comedy Central
In 2007, writers from the highly successful Comedy Central shows The Sarah Silverman Program, Mind of Mencia, The Showbiz Show with David Spade and American Body Shop stood together to demand fair and just treatment and won a WGA contract. Earlier in the year the writers of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report won WGA contracts, meaning that every live-action show currently in production on Comedy Central is now covered.
