Frequently Asked Questions
-
What if I haven't worked at Producer level or higher, and what if I'm not a TV writer?
This particular program is designed for writers with TV experience at the Producer level or higher. The Guild offers other programs for writers not in this category; keep an eye on the WGAW calendar and your inboxes for more.
-
When and where will the 2025 LTP take place?
From February 4 through March 11, on six consecutive Tuesday evenings at the Writers Guild Theater in Beverly Hills. Light refreshments will be available at 6 p.m. The class begins at 7 p.m. sharp and ends at 9:30 p.m. Complimentary parking will be provided.
-
Is there a Zoom option?
Not at this time. However, the Guild can provide a childcare stipend to parents and caregivers who would otherwise not be able to attend the LTP in person. Please complete the childcare stipend form available at check-in.
-
Is this program part of the Showrunner Training Program?
No, although it will cover some overlapping topics. It will be delivered in the form of six consecutive weekly lectures. We’ll share successful strategies for every aspect of managing a TV staff, from being in the writers’ room through covering set and supervising post.
-
Why should I attend the Leadership Training Program?
Due to industry changes, many writers have not had the opportunity to learn how to produce, and have little to no experience on set. The LTP will provide tools to foster healthy workplace dynamics, respectful collaboration and humane interactions. On top of that, we’ll teach management techniques that can immediately be put into use at every stage of writers’ rooms and during the development process.
-
How was the LTP curriculum developed?
Our curriculum evolved from a robust exchange of ideas, experiences and recommendations offered by an Advisory Board consisting of an inclusive cross-section of members who write and produce for drama, comedy and animation, along with input from the Board of Directors.
-
Is there an application process?
No. All current active WGAW members who have worked at Producer level or higher on a TV writing staff are welcome to sign up for the LTP.
-
Is there any cost for the program?
No.
-
Is there a limitation on the number of participants?
Yes. It is limited to the capacity of the Writers Guild Theater. Participants will be admitted on a first-come, first-served basis, though we will give priority to members who have not been in the Showrunner Training Program.
